This document is aimed at explaining how Japanese Elementary Schools work to parents who have come from abroad to live in Sendai, and are thinking about having their children enroll in or transfer to Sendai Elementary Schools. We revised the first edition which was published in the 2002 fiscal year, which was created after taking into account advice from teachers of Sendai Public Elementary Schools that have international classes, the Miyagi University of Education, the Sendai Board of Education, and citizens' groups. We created this booklet with an average Sendai City public school in mind. However, individual schools may have small differences between them. We hope that children will be able to quickly become familiar with their new environment and that they will enjoy the Japanese school lifestyle.
