In most cases, all classes at elementary schools are taught by the homeroom teacher.
Every semester, the school will write your child's grades and also about how they are doing in the classroom. After you read it, either stamp it with an inkan (a stamp with your last name on it) or sign it and send it back to school with your child to be handed in on the first day of the following semester. There are also times when you will be asked to write about your child and how they have been doing over the vacation.
Children 4th grade and up can participate in club activities. The children participate with children from different grades and with children outside of their homeroom class who have the same interests.
All 5th and 6th graders participate in committees that perform work for the school. Some examples of different committees are: broadcasting, library work, promoting health at school, organizing meetings, and the school newspaper.
