COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) Cases Confirmed（新型コロナウイルス感染症の患者の発生について） (March 29th, 2020)
On Sunday, March 29, 2020 around 5:30p.m., two COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) cases were confirmed in Sendai City. These are the third and fourth cases in Miyagi Prefecture, following the second case of a woman in her 40’s, which was confirmed in the area over which Shiogama Public Health Center has a jurisdiction on March 26.
The two persons who were newly infected with the coronavirus, visited a neighboring medical institution after having a fever and other symptoms. One of the persons who contracted COVID-19 is a female international patient in her 30’s. After learning that the Akita Prefecture residents that she had spent time (eating and drinking) together in Sendai City on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 had contracted COVID-19, she called the Consultation Center for Returnees/Persons who Contacted Infected Individuals on March 28. Another person who contracted COVID-19 is a man in his 30’s. He also claimed the same symptoms as said woman with whom he spent time (eating and drinking) together at the same eating establishment. From such circumstances, they both visited Outpatient Service for Returnees/Persons who Contacted Infected Individuals to take the test on March 29. Around 5:30p.m. on the same day, the test results showed they were positive for COVID-19.
They are currently hospitalized in a Registered Medical Institution for Infectious Diseases, but are in a stable, non-critical condition. We will check on their activities and collect information of persons who had close contact with the patients, as well as conduct health monitoring.
