Traditional Sendai “Surume Tenbata” Kite-Making Workshop(Subsidized by SenTIA)(仙台伝統凧作り体験会)

The Sendai International Friendship Club will be hosting a workshop where one could try making Sendai kites.
Through hosting cultural exchange events, the Sendai International Friendship Club hopes to promote mutual respect between people of different nationalities and ethnicities.

On February 16 (Sunday) starting at 1:30 p.m., we will be hosting a calligraphy workshop at Miyagi NPO Plaza.

This time we are holding a workshop where you can try making your own traditional Sendai “surume tenbata” kite.
“Surume tenbata” kites are unique to Sendai, and are a traditional kite that originates from the Edo period.
The word “surume” means “dried squid”, whose shape the kites are said to resemble.

The instructors at this workshop are members of the “Sendai Kite Club”. If the weather on the day of the workshop is sunny, participants will get to fly their kites at Tsutsujigaoka Park, which is located in front of Miyagi NPO Plaza.

Everyone is welcome to participate in our event. (Foreign residents and school-age children are also welcome)
We look forward to seeing you at the event!
