Chinese Cultural Experience (Chinese Giant Panda Papercutting) (Subsidized by SenTIA)(中国パンダ切り絵体験会)
The Sendai International Friendship Club will be hosting a workshop teaching Chinese papercutting, which is an UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. At this event, participants will learn to make paper cut art of giant pandas.
Chinese papercutting is said to have evolved from leather and silk crafts. 2000 years ago, paper was invented in China, which led to the birth of paper cut art. What started out as simple cut outs of Chinese characters and patterns was eventually developed into more complex patterns such as animals, plants, and Buddhist stupa during Tang Dynasty (618-907).
Through hosting events which allow participants to experience traditional aspects of foreign cultures, the Sendai International Friendship Club hopes to promote mutual respect between people of different nationalities and ethnicities.
Everyone is welcome to participate in our event. (Foreign residents and school age children are also welcomed.)
We look forward to receiving your application.
