Benefits to be provided to support the livelihood of single-parent households which are affected by COVID-19

【Eligible persons】
Those who meet one of the requirements ① through ③ listed below and take care of children who are 18 years of age or younger (under age of 20 when they have disabilities) as of March 31, 2022.

① Those receiving a child-rearing allowance in April 2021
※ Those who submitted an application by March 31, 2021 and were approved to receive a child-rearing allowance
② Those who were a single-parent, and not receiving a child-rearing allowance in April 2021 due to receiving public pension funds.
※ Public pension funds are survivors’ pension, disability pension, old-age pension, industrial accident pension, survivor compensation, etc.
※ Those who are not approved to receive a child-rearing allowance as they receive the public pension funds are also eligible.
※ Those who were a single parent as of March 31, 2021 and their income of 2019 is lower than the base amount.
③ Those who are a single parent whose income decreased due to the spread of COVID-19 and earning from February 2020 is at the same level as those receiving a child-rearing allowance.
※ Also eligible if there is someone with support obligations whose income has decreased.
※ Not eligible when becoming a single-parent on and after February 2, 2022 since the application period is shorter than one month and their income of the month cannot be calculated

【Benefit】
50,000 yen per eligible child

【Application Period】
April 23, 2021 (Fri.) – February 28, 2022 (Mon.)

【How to Apply】
[Eligibility] Those of whom to which ① is applicable do not need to apply.
※ A notification from the City of Sendai was sent to those who are eligible on April 19, 2021.
※ The payment was made into the account designated for the child-rearing allowance on April 23, 2021.
[Eligibility] Those of whom to which ② and ③ are applicable are required to apply.
※ Applications will be sent by mid-May to those who:
・are approved to receive a child allowance and its issuance is suspended.
・applied to “Temporary Special Benefit for Single-parent Households” and received the benefit in 2020
(excludes married persons).
※ You can receive applications at the Child-rearing Allowance counter of a Ward Office or General Branch office if which you live in.
※ If you wish to have an application mailed to where you live, please ask the call center. The application and a stamped return envelope (free of charge for submission) will be sent to you by post.
