(Notice from the Sendai City Board of Education) Enrollment for evening classes held at Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School for August, October and December 2026.
Evening classes held at Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School serve to support anyone who “wants to learn again,” as a school for individuals who missed out on class for any reason or for local and foreign residents who have not met Japan’s compulsory education requirements.
What night school (evening classes) look like:
・Students study the same curriculum as daytime junior high school students.
・Students graduate once finishing all classes.
・Students holding foreign nationality will receive Japanese language support as needed. Learning just Japanese is not an option.
・All classes are taught by instructors with junior high school teaching licenses.
・No course fees. Textbooks are distributed free of charge.
・Classes are held Monday to Friday, from 5:30pm to 9pm.
・Each period is 40 minutes long; four periods each day; 40 periods per week.
・You can work while enrolled.
Enrollment flow (August, October, December)
1.Receive information. Join an Informational session and/or have an individual consultation.
2.Try out a class. You will be able to join an actual class.
3.Submit an application form. Due dates depend on the period you want to enroll.
4.Have an interview. Dates and times will differ for each interviewee.
5.Successful Applicants will be notified by mail.

Enrollment information
Enrollment is only open for first and second year classes. Requirements are outlined below.
| Enrollment requirements: | Applicants must live in Miyagi Prefecture and meet one of the following requirements: 1.Has not graduated from a junior high school and is over the age of 16. 2.Graduated from a junior high school without receiving a sufficient education. 3.A foreign resident over the age of 16 who has not satisfied Japan’s compulsory education requirement. *These classes are not for those currently enrolled in junior high school. |
| Applicants | First and second year classes only. ・Once student capacity has been reached for this academic year, applications will no longer be accepted. For example, if the capacity for October enrollment has been reached, applications for December enrollment will not be accepted. ・In the case we receive more applicants than we have space for, those able to enroll will be chosen through a lottery. |
| Selection Method： | All aspects of an applicant’s application and interview will be used in the decision-making process. |
