First Coronavirus Case Confirmed
On Saturday, February 29, 2020 around 6a.m., the first coronavirus case was confirmed in
Sendai City. This is also the first case in Miyagi Prefecture.
The person who emerged that is infected with the Coronavirus, was a passenger of the Diamond
Princess cruise ship. He disembarked the ship after the confirmation of testing negative,and
finishing the 14 days of health monitoring on the ship. The City of Sendai has been monitoring and
conducting health follow-ups since Sunday, February 23.
On Friday, February 28, the person notified us as having developed a slight fever and respiratory
symptom, and test results showed they were positive for Coronavirus.
The patient is currently hospitalized in a Registered Medical Institution for Infectious Diseases,
but is in a stable, not a critical condition.
We will actively conduct epidemiology survey including collecting information of persons who had close contact with the patient, or health monitoring.
