4. Children and Child Rearing (children’s club, child rearing class, toddler health checkup, BCG vaccine, nurseries)

 

4-1. 「School and Children’s Clubs」

Municipal schools (elementary, junior high, and high schools) are closed until May 31 (Sun.).
Sendai City’s Public Schools will be reopened on June 1, 2020.

【Entrance Ceremonies】
Elementary Schools・Secondary Schools:June 1st (Mon.)
Junior High Schools:June 2nd (Tue.)
High Schools:June 1st (Mon.) or June 2nd (Tue.)
※ Opening Ceremonies for all schools will be held on June 1st (Mon.).
※ Although Entrance Ceremonies will be held on June 2nd (Tue.), 1st graders of Junior High Schools will begin school on June 1st (Mon.).

【Responses after Reopening Schools】
・Thoroughly take preventive measures against spreading the Coronavirus such as conducting
health checkups and frequent ventilation of air in classrooms.
・Light school lunch (bread and milk) will be provided from June 3rd (Wed.) to June 5th (Fri.).
・Club activities will be resumed gradually while considering the current situation.

【Summer Break】
Summer break will be from August 8th (Sat.) to August 18th (Tue.).
However, the summer break period may vary depending on each school.

While elementary schools are closed, please keep children at home as much as possible while a parent is also at home. Please do not go to school or children’s clubs. If parents absolutely cannot stay at home due to work or other responsibilities, children can go to school or children’s clubs. What hours children can go to school or clubs vary by grade.

4-2. 「3 to 4-month-old baby classes and toddler health check-ups」

● Toddler health check-ups will resume on June 16 (Tues.).
18-month-old health check-ups
2-years-6-months-old dental health check-ups
3-year old health check-ups

The times and dates of the health check-ups differ between Ward Offices and General Branch Offices. The date of your child’s health check-up will be sent to your home by post.
※Please make sure to wear a mask on the day of check-up.
※Please do not go for a health check-up if either the child being examined or a family member has a fever.
Please contact a ward office or general branch office once their health has improved.

● 3 to 4-month-old baby classes to remain suspended.
Classes will not be held on a different date.
Materials which are given out in the classes will be sent by post to those who intended to take the classes during the period of suspension.

4-3. 「BCG Vaccine」

In order to protect against Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), restrictions are being placed on which children can receive the BCG vaccine. Eligible persons will receive a notice from the City of Sendai.

4-4. 「Nurseries (facilities which can look after children)」

① Times when nurseries and other facilities are closed
Nurseries and other facilities may be closed due to the spread of infection.

 

4-5. 「A request regarding the use of nurseries: Please keep your child at home if possible.」

①A request regarding the use of nurseries, in order to prevent the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
When preventing the spread of viruses, it is important to keep many people from gathering in one place.
When parents are at home, they should try to keep their children at home as much as possible. Please do not go to nurseries and other facilities. However, parents should use nurseries and other facilities when they cannot be at home due to work or other circumstances.
To prevent the spread of viruses at nurseries and other facilities, wash your hands many times throughout the day, and wear a mask if you are coughing.

② Nursery fees will be reimbursed for days that children did not go to their nursery.
【Eligibility】
Children 0 to 2 years of age

【Time Period】
April 1, 2020 (Wed.) – May 31, 2020 (Sun.)

With nurseries, fees for 1 month will be paid as usual.
Afterwards, fees will be reimbursed for days that children did not go to their nursery.
Information on the reimbursement process will be provided at a later time.

 

4-6. 「Temporary Special Cash Payments for Households Raising Children」

Those receiving “Child Allowance” can receive 10,000 yen per child.

【Eligibility】
Those who received “Child Allowance” for March or April, 2020.

【How to apply】
Those already receiving “Child Allowance” do not need to apply to receive payment.
