Started in 2002, this class is held at Katsura Shimin Center every Friday from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Targeted for beginners and intermediate learners, class numbers are kept small and there are usually one or two students for every one teacher. Classes proceed with daily conversation as the focus and with the desires of the students in mind. We also teach students only that cannot make it for the in-person classes.
Currently (April 2023) we have 16 teachers, all of which have completed courses in teaching Japanese at various institutions. We have many passionate people of all ages teaching for us.
Apart from ordinary classes, we have also run speech contents for learners, introduce aspects of Japanese culture (temple visits, calligraphy classes), cooking classes and many more fun activities. (Due to Covid-19 we have not been able to run temple visits or cooking classrooms for the last 3 years.)
