Information on Temporary Special Benefit for Single-parent Households(ひとり親世帯臨時特別給付金)

Benefits to be provided to support the livelihood of single-parent households.
※The National Government of Japan has decided to provide a second round of benefits in order to support the livelihood of single-parent households.
 

【Benefit】

<1st Benefit>

There are two parts to the benefit, 1. Basic Benefit, and 2. Additional Benefit.
1. Basic Benefit
50,000 yen per household, plus 30,000 yen per child after the second child.
(Ex.: One child household: 50,000 yen, two child household 80,000 yen (50,000+30,000 yen))

2. Additional Benefit
50,000 yen per household

<2nd Benefit>

This will be the same amount as the 1st Basic Benefit.
※50,000 yen per household, plus 30,000 yen per child after the second child .
※On December 24, 2020, the City of Sendai will deposit the 2nd Benefit in the same bank account as the 1st Benefit.
※For those who apply to the City of Sendai for the 1st Benefit after December 12, the 1st and 2nd Benefits will be deposited together after about 1 month.

 

【Those eligible for the benefit】

<1st Benefit>

1. Basic Benefit
Those who meet one of requirements ① through ③ listed below:

① Those receiving child-rearing allowance in June 2020.
② Those who became a single-parent household before May 31, 2020, received public pension funds (survivors’ pension, disability pension, old-age pension, industrial accident pension, survivor compensation etc.), and not receiving child-rearing allowance in June 2020.
③ Persons whose income decreased due to the spread of COVID-19, and are earning an income at the same level as those receiving child-rearing allowance.

2. Additional Benefit
Those who fall under either ①or ② listed above, whose income has decreased due to COVID-19.
※Those who fall under ③ are not eligible for the Additional Benefit.

<2nd Benefit>

Those who have received the 1st Basic Benefit from the City of Sendai

 

【Application Period】

<1st Benefit>

July 15, 2020 – February 28, 2021

<2nd Benefit>

Those who received the Basic Benefit from the City of Sendai on December 11, 2020 or applied for the Basic Benefit are not required to apply.
The City of Sendai sent a notification to those who are eligible on December 18, 2020.
Please check if a notification has arrived. Please inquire if one has not arrived.
Additionally, those who apply for the Basic Benefit from December 12 onwards can apply for both the 1st and 2nd Benefits.

 

【How to Apply】

<1st Benefit>

1. Basic Benefit
Eligibility: Those of which ① is applicable do not need to apply.
※A notification from the City of Sendai was sent to those who are eligible at the end of July.
※The payment was made into the account designated for child-rearing allowance on August 14.

Eligibility: Those of which ②and ③ are applicable are required to apply.
※ Please submit or post the application to the Child-Rearing Allowance counter of the Ward Office or General Branch office of which you live in.
※Application forms can be downloaded from the official website of the City of Sendai. They can also be found at the Child-Rearing Allowance counter of the Ward Office or General Branch Office of which you live in.
※The contents of the application will be screened by the City of Sendai. Those who meet the requirements will be transferred the benefit approximately one month later.

2. Additional Benefit
The additional benefit must be applied for.
Eligibility: Those who full under ① will receive the additional benefit application when the “Basic Benefit Notice” is sent out.

Eligibility: Those who fall under ②, can download applications from the Official Website of the City of Sendai or by visiting the Child-Rearing Allowance counter of a Ward Office or General Branch Office.
※Please submit or post the application to the Child-Rearing Allowance counter of the Ward Office or General Branch Office of which you live in.
※The contents of the application will be screened by the City of Sendai. Those who meet the requirements will be transferred the benefit approximately one month later.
